Internet metrics as subject of research

The importance of the Internet as a critical infrastructure for citizens, businesses and government is steadily increasing. Today, access to the network is a prerequisite for professional and personal opportunities. Therefore it is essential to ensure the availability and efficiency of this medium.
The German Internet Index is a research project that addresses this challenge by establishing a key figure system for Internet metrics.
It is designed to help analyzing and understanding the major parameters that determine the current situation and future development of the net.
The project is aimed at both interested citizens and decision makers in business and politics and is designed to provide valuable information to the public and private sector.
Moreover, it tries to estimate the economical and social implications of technology driven innovations with an nation-centric view, focusing the impact on Germany.
The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and is developed at the Institute for Internet Security at Gelsenkirchen University of Applied Sciences.
