MediationChat - a secure and fast way to a out-of-court settlement
Online deals are not always free of trouble. Some of us may have already experienced such a scenario: “You’ve found a long searched-for item on eBay. You’ve transferred the money and you’re still waiting for the postman to arrive with the item” Some buyers wait in vain for their auctioned item. Less severe are items with defects or just discrepancies between buyer and seller.
Online Mediation
The aim is to solve these discrepancies quick and easy. Clashes that aren’t brought to court can be solved through a simple procedure, called Mediation.
On a mediation date the parties to the dispute and the mediator come together. They try to adjust their differences in short time, without bringing the case to court.
When doing online business the parties to the dispute are too far away from each other to meet. In those cases the so called online dispute resolution comes into play. Online dispute resolution settles down a dispute via internet.
This can take place through E-Mail or via chat.
MediationChat on basis of a trustable chat
Kathrin Meynert, a former employee at the Institute for Internet Security, already developed a trustable chat system.
The SecureChat offers a good foundation for a mediation chat, which makes different demands on a chat.
The disputing chat participants should be able to upload evidence like bills to the chat and provide it to the others. The chat log file should be provided to all participating parties.
In cooperation with Professor Andreas Müglich from the faculty of economic law, the Institute for Internet Security extends the existing SecureChat system to a online dispute resolution chat system.
