Internet Availability System

The Availability System visualizes the quality of the most important internet services (QoS) and the infrastructure seen from a users view. Service specific evaluation methods are used to monitor the functionalities. Referring to the protocols in use, the system to be monitored is connected and the service is used. The response times are logged and later used as a basis for evaluation systems. Unlike other systems we try to create a visualization of the Internet from a users view. Internet server providers are able to monitor the functionality, but they’re not able to see how accessible their systems are for users.

They need an Internet connection, a DNS system and depend on the work of Autonomous System routers. Due to these facts the availability system is designed to collect data from different locations to recognize fluctuations within its own connection in comparison to other locations.

The results of the Availability System are stored into a database, so the IAS has also access to the information provided.  If an IAS probe recognizes an attack pattern, it is easy to see how a system’s quality of service changes. Negative developments can be identified quickly and warnings can be announced.
The user interface of the availability system is integrated into that of IAS to establish common user guidance within both systems and to combine the chart presentation of both systems.

The following services can be monitored:

* HTTP
* FTP
* DNS
* SMTP, POP3 / IMAP
* SIP

Collected information (Quality of Service)

* Availability
* Bandwith
* Delay
* Packet loss ratio
