The aims of structural analysis are to create a visual presentation of the infrastructure and to analyse important characteristics for the structure of the internet. In line with the structural analysis of the internet the structure of the German internet is displayed graphically. By the help of information about Autonomous Systems, the mutual connections between the AS and the backing companies, the German Internet part is undertaken a closer analysis. Another aspect is to analyse and display the communication within the internet, in consideration of specific usage profiles. This makes it possible to determine „data highways“ between e.g. DSL users and important Content Providers.

Besides visual presentation of the infrastructure, our project “structural analysis of the internet” aims at analyzing important characteristics for the structure of the internet. This means: Long term monitoring of quantity and development of Autonomous Systems, information about connections between the systems and further information about the infrastructure.

Furthermore we develop model architectures about different data characteristics (traffic, etc.) in Germany. During the initial phase the focus lies on the German part of the internet.
